Biography

Alexey Chernakov was born in 1988 in Novosibirsk. He started to study music when he was four. When he turned nine, he began to learn the basics of jazz improvisation in the “Peter Petrukhin’s Jazz-Lab” in the children’s School of Music No.28 named after of Mr. Grechaninov. Twice he was on probation in the Summer Art School organized by the “New Names” Charity Foundation (city of Suzdal). Attended the class of Mikhail Okun, Honored Artist of Russia.

Alexey’s first fame came along with his victories in jazz artists competitions: 1st Open competition of young performers of jazz music in Saratov (First Prize); The 5th International competition of young jazz performers “Jazz Parnassus” in St. Petersburg (Grand Prix); The 1st Open contest-festival “Grand Piano in Jazz” in Moscow (First Prize); the 7th International jazz competition and festival in memory of Leonid Utesov in Odessa (Grand Prix); International competition “DoDzh2005” in Donetsk (first prize and special prize for the best competitive composition).

Alexey Chernakov graduated with honors from the State College of Music of Variety-Jazz Arts and from the Russian Gnesinyh Academy of Music on jazz piano (class of People’s Artist of Russia I. M. Brill). He was trained on the program “Open World” at the Dave Brubeck Institute (California, USA).

Alexey Chernakov’s talent, professionalism and creativity were appreciated by the jury of Youth Award “Triumph”, declaring him to be the year 2006 laureate. Alexey performed at such prestigious international jazz festivals like the Montreux jazz festival (Switzerland), Monterey jazz festival (USA), etc.

In 2013 Alexey Chernakov became the finalist of the project “Great jazz” on TV channel “Culture”.

In 2015 Alexey Chernakov graduated from the composition faculty of the Moscow state Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky (composition and polyphony of Professor L. B. Bobylev). His thesis — act Opera “Prophetic dream” won the contest for the 150th anniversary of the Conservatory and will be delivered in 2016. As a composer he collaborated with the Moscow theatre “Sovremennik”. Works by Alexey were performed in Germany, USA, France, Spain, Poland, Lithuania.
